Peter Cellars was started by Peter Mauel in 2005 based on a commitment to produce high quality wines that combine the unique terroir and fruit characteristics of northern California with old world French wine making techniques. Having grown up in the United kingdom and spending many harvests assisting wine houses in both the Burgundy and Bordeaux regions of France. Peter begun to develop an understanding of  the many different techniques and styles both in the vineyard and the cellar and the impact they would have on the style of the finished wines. From these experiences Peter started to develop a clear winemaking  philosophy and style. Upon moving to California in the early nineties and assisting various crushes at some of Sonoma and Napa’s top wineries, Peter decided to get more seriously involved. In addition many nights and weekends were spent studying ,reviewing and completing the Oenology Certificate from  UC Davis . In 2005 Peter started to scour the  Sonoma Coast and Sonoma Valley appellations for vineyard fruit sources and a location to make wine. In 2010 the next chapter began, when we acquired our Carneros Estate Vineyard in Sonoma as a premanent location to make our Gold Medal and 90 point award winning wines. In October 2011 we opened up for tasting on a by appnt only basis.
